Body weight is one useful treatment measure, but it is not a complete report on health or day-to-day function. Fluid shifts, sodium intake, bowel patterns, menstrual-cycle changes, clothing, and weighing time can move the number even when the longer trend is stable.

People using Wegovy (semaglutide), Ozempic (semaglutide), Zepbound (tirzepatide), Mounjaro (tirzepatide), or another prescribed GLP-1–based medication can build a broader record of progress. Useful categories include waist circumference, strength and physical function, energy, symptoms, and laboratory tests selected by a clinician.

This approach does not replace weighing when weight is relevant to care. It places weight beside other information so one reading carries less emotional and clinical weight than it should.

Use a Small, Repeatable Dashboard

Tracking everything usually creates more data than insight. Start with measures that connect to your treatment goals and can be collected consistently.

A simple monthly dashboard might contain:

  • Weight trend, if weighing is appropriate for you
  • Waist circumference
  • One strength measure
  • One daily-function measure

Many smart scales estimate body fat, muscle mass, visceral fat, bone mass, or body water through bioelectrical impedance analysis. The device sends a small current through the body and combines the measured impedance with personal details and a proprietary equation.

A 2021 observational study of three commercially available smart scales found that their weight readings were more accurate than their body-composition estimates. Individual body-fat or muscle estimates can therefore look precise without matching a reference method.

Body-composition estimates may vary with measurement conditions, including hydration and recent food or exercise. Different brands may use different algorithms, so values should not be compared across devices.
