What Is the Amazon One Medical GLP-1 Program?
Amazon One Medical now offers GLP-1 prescriptions through its primary care service. That means you can see a provider online, get evaluated for a GLP-1 medication, and walk away with a prescription — all through Amazon's platform.
This is not Amazon selling GLP-1 drugs directly. It is a telehealth service where a One Medical clinician decides if you qualify and writes the prescription. You still fill it at a pharmacy like you normally would.
What Does It Cost?
There are two separate costs to think about:
1. One Medical Membership
One Medical charges a membership fee. The current rate is $199 per year (or $9 per month through Prime). This gives you access to all One Medical primary care visits, not just GLP-1 prescriptions.
2. The GLP-1 Medication Itself
The cost of the medication depends on your insurance:
- With commercial insurance + savings card: Most patients pay $0 to $25 per month for brand-name GLP-1s like Wegovy or Zepbound.
- Without insurance: List prices range from $850 to $1,400 per month. See our GLP-1 cost comparison guide for the full breakdown.
- Medicare: Copays typically range from $25 to $150 per month depending on your Part D plan.
One Medical does not discount the medication itself. You pay whatever your pharmacy charges.
Who Qualifies?
A One Medical provider will evaluate you based on standard GLP-1 prescribing criteria:
- BMI of 30 or higher, or
- BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related condition (like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or type 2 diabetes)
These are the same guidelines most providers use. Amazon is not lowering the bar or making up its own rules here.
You also need to be an existing One Medical member and live in a state where the service operates.
How to Sign Up
The process is straightforward:
- Join One Medical. You can sign up online or through the One Medical app. If you have Amazon Prime, you may get a discounted membership.
- Book a virtual visit. Request an appointment and mention you are interested in GLP-1 medication.
- Meet with a provider. They will review your health history, current weight, and any weight-related conditions.
- Get your prescription. If you qualify, the provider writes the prescription and sends it to your preferred pharmacy.
- Pick up your medication. Fill it like any other prescription. Use the manufacturer's savings card to lower your cost if you have commercial insurance.
The whole process can take a few days from signup to having a prescription in hand.
How It Compares to Other Options
| Option | Membership / Visit Cost | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon One Medical | $199/yr or $9/mo with Prime | Easy signup, Amazon integration, fast virtual visits | Still need insurance for affordable meds, limited to states where One Medical operates |
| Traditional doctor | Copay ($15-$75 per visit) | In-person exam, existing relationship | Longer wait times, may need separate referral |
| Other telehealth (Ro, Hims, etc.) | Varies ($30-$150/mo) | GLP-1 specific programs, monthly plans | Can be more expensive over time |
| Direct pharmacy (Mark Cuban Cost Plus) | No membership | Low prices on some generics | GLP-1 brands still expensive, no prescribing service |

What This Program Does NOT Do
It is important to be clear about the limits:
- Amazon does not sell GLP-1 medications. You still go to a regular pharmacy.
- Amazon does not guarantee insurance coverage. Your plan decides what it covers, not One Medical.
- This is not a discount program for the drugs. The savings come from your insurance and manufacturer savings cards, not from Amazon.
- You may still get denied. A One Medical provider can prescribe, but your insurance can still reject coverage. If that happens, you go through the same prior authorization and appeals process as anyone else.
For help with that process, see our guide to GLP-1 insurance coverage.
Is This a Good Option for You?
The Amazon One Medical GLP-1 program makes the most sense if:
- You already have Amazon Prime and want the discounted membership
- You do not have a primary care doctor who will prescribe GLP-1s
- You want a fast, simple way to get evaluated
- You have commercial insurance that covers GLP-1 medications
It makes less sense if:
- You already have a doctor who prescribes GLP-1s
- You do not have insurance and cannot afford list-price medications
- You want ongoing, in-person medical supervision
The Bottom Line
Amazon One Medical adds another entry point for getting a GLP-1 prescription. It is convenient and reasonably priced for what it is — a telehealth visit. But the hard part of GLP-1 access has always been the cost of the medication itself, and Amazon does not solve that problem.
If you have good commercial insurance, this can be a quick path to a prescription. If you are paying cash, the real cost challenge remains the pharmacy price, not the doctor visit.
